Check it out!

The sap is rising~ there is lots of talk about RESILIENCE happening in the studio lately: 2 workshops specifically working around this word, and I'm feeling into the usefulness of it in my life for sure.

Yama is also the talk of the studio this month: our time before we move and breathe is dedicated to peeking into the wide world of the behaviors of the dear one walking the path of the yogi...(this includes all of us!)

Yama often translates from Sanskrit to English to mean "ethic". Donna Farhi uses the language "keys to living soulfully" to describe what the Yama are all about.  I love this.

Im translating the 5 Yama as follows: less harm, more honesty, less stealing, awareness of moderation that brings balance and clarity, and finally, letting go as I can to being overly grasp-y about stuff.

Michael Stone has a wonderful book about the Yama's specifically, and how yoga, through his eyes, is a beautiful frame work for activism: Yoga For A World Out of Balance.  Feel free to check out the library at the studio for reading materials regarding the Yama~ our public library also has lots of great books to explore ways you might bring these ethics more alive in your world/practice.

I hope you enjoy peeking into the Yama this month~ remember, move at your own pace: these ideas are meant to be contemplated and worked with in real life ways, as a gift.

Happy February!  The sap is rising! Resilience is in your bones and your heart knows the rhythm...

love love love,

    Inspiration

Each month in classes and workshops here at The Breathing Room, we pull in a thread of ancient yoga philosophy to offer up for exploration and discussion.  The writings you see here are inspired by the in class discussions.
