Arrive for yoga class with a mostly empty belly whenever possible. Many of the poses aim to increase digestive abilities and decrease tension in the belly and this is most efficiently done when we have consumed a light meal at least an hour before practice. Comfortable clothes are the best! Socks can be worn into the studio to keep your feet warm, but enjoying bare feet on the mat will help prevent dangerous slipping and gripping.
Yoga for Kids! Kids yoga! Monday's, 4:30-5:15pm, is for kiddos aged 4-10. Parents are welcome to enjoy tea in the living room while kids enjoy class in the studio. You do not need to pre-register for this class~ just come on in and drop in for $10, or buy a class card of 5 for $40. We ask that you aim to use your class card within 3 months. Teacher Michelle is gentle, kind and loves yoga. In her yoga classes, you can expect games, yoga poses, laughter and restful meditation time. ALL CHILDREN WELCOME AND WILL BE ACCOMMODATED. Scholarship spaces available, just let us know what you need.. We can't wait to share kids yoga with your little!
Yoga for Wellness In this gentle mid morning class, you'll receive strong support from the wisdom of both yoga and acupuncture healing traditions. Julie brings her love and deep understanding of yoga and Chinese Medicine together on the mat for this opportunity to get to know and support your body, heart and nervous system in a sweet and simple way. Qigong exercises, self massage, asana, breath work and meditation are woven together in this class to help balance the body and encourage seasonal wellness to take deep root. This gentle class is a great way to stay on the mat when working through injury and illness. Absolute beginners as well as those experienced in yoga will enjoy this holistic offering. Be well!
Yoga For Fascial Release + Flexible Strength Using foam rollers, tennis balls and yoga asana, we'll find new ways to encourage healthy, flexible fascia. We'll work to understand and practice functional strength building movements that are aimed at making our yoga practice~ and lives!~ work better for us. To understand where our bodies need releasing, where they need strength building, and how to do it~ is knowledge that will make living in this body sweeter. There is much we can do outside of asana (yoga posture) that will help to make our bodies absorb the postures with more ease. We'll explore that here. This is a class your physical therapist would love for you to take! All levels are welcomed and will be accommodated.
Gentle Yoga Our most gentle class of the week. This class is for everyone desiring an easeful way to welcome the week. We’ll keep it low to the ground for most of our time on the mat; lots of time to practice breathing well and moving with great care for our own bodies, creating a sense of ease while exploring the immense benefits of soft, mindful yoga sequences and delicious stretching. We’ll offer gratitude for what is, and cultivate conditions where vitality and restoration can organically take root. Unwind Let go of the week, tune back in to the body as a guide, a gift, a blessing. Here, we’ll breathe deeply and well, moving into deep stretches, spending lots of time on self massage by way of tennis balls, foam rollers, straps and body rollers. We'll often wiggle and shake~ exploring movement in both traditional and non-traditional ways~ all aimed to bring balance and a sense of well being as we enter the time of weekend-ing…
Level 1 Start here! For beginners, or those desiring a foundational style class… this is the one! We'll talk about and practice alignment principals that will become familiar in many of the asanas (postures) you'll come to know and love for a lifetime: Warrior 1, Warrior2, Down Dog, Cobra, Forward Fold, Child's Pose. Yoga is not limited to just postures and flow~ we'll spend time learning and practicing breathing techniques from a variety of traditions. We'll talk lots about connecting the breath with the asanas. We'll practice meditation techniques and mindfulness in spontaneous and traditional ways. Come with an open heart and mind, ready to learn and explore, and leave feeling refreshed, re-interested and softened.
Level 2 For those with yoga experience and looking to deepen their practice both physically and mentally. Physically, we'll draw inspiration from the Ashtanga lineage, moving with steadiness and enthusiasm to create warmth, cultivate patience and clear seeing, and feel our strength and flexibility in both mind, body and spirit. A typical class will offer an invigorating standing pose flow, seated postures, an opportunity to explore back bends, inversions, twists, and longer times in meditative stillness, enjoying the bright, open space together. We usually begin our time together discussing the monthly dharma theme~ listening and sharing how yoga is as alive today as it has ever been.
Level 1-2 Aimed to serve as a bridge between Level 1 and Level 2, this class will greet you where you are and invite you to play with what feels like not too much, but not too little- to get your mind re-freshed, your body untangled, and your spirits brightened. This level of class incorporates movement, philosophy, breath and meditation techniques in lovely ways that allow accessibility to beginners ready for a little more vigor, as well as practitioners with experience desiring a journey just beyond the foundations of hatha vinyasa yoga. *The early morning Monday class (7-8:15am) will gently follow the cycles of the moon~ encouraging an introspective glance at our life, and practice, through the lens of wax and wane.*
All Levels Sunday Practice We are so blessed to be able to rotate our teaching kula on this day, keeping Sunday fresh and unique! This 'All Levels' class means EVERYONE is welcome, all levels will be accommodated. We may take a stroll through Sun Salutations and play with restful or invigorating variations, we may enjoy restorative and yin poses with chairs and props, perhaps exploring some nourishing self massage, qui gong and acupressure sets, visualizations, meditations, dialogue, chanting. Come with your heart and mind open to celebrate all the ways yoga brings heart, warmth, texture and soul to our community.
Yoga for Therapists A private space for therapists only. We are happy to host this afternoon class to support the wellness of our local helpers. Come enjoy a healthy afternoon break to connect with fantastic fellow therapists, stretch, breathe, chat about what is working, and feel supported to set down what is not. We'll move through Sun Salutations, Warrior poses, gentle back bends, breath practices and seated meditations to offer space and relaxation on this last day of the work week. All levels are welcome and will be accommodated.
Yin Yoga Yin, sometimes called the "quiet practice", is a way of practicing yoga where floor based poses are held for 3 to 5 minutes. On the physical level, the long holds work the deeper layers of the body such as: the fascia, connective tissues, joints and even bones. The nervous system is soothed while the flow of energy is released. On a psycho-spiritual level, the invitation to stay with what may be awkward or uncomfortable, and wait~ is a profound practice. This practice offers a wonderful supplement to our more active asana practices that work the muscular body through repetition as well as enhancing your mindfulness meditation practice.
Restorative Yoga Join us each Sunday night for this most gentle + healing yoga experience. Restorative yoga takes place on the floor~ using lots of props to support the body letting go. Poses are very gentle and focused on inviting rest, ease and restoration. This is a class that anyone able to get up and down off of the floor can take, even if you are experiencing pain and/or injury. As Restorative poses are often held for up to 10 minutes, there are lots of quiet moments for focusing on breath and enjoying the healing music and guided meditations offered. Leave feeling softened, opened + rested. Gentle Kundalini and Gong Bath Clear away past patterns of being that keep you stuck and wake up your potential to meet life with a cheerful, peaceful energy. Taught by Saha Devi, a certified Kundalini Yoga teacher, this class blends active sequences, called "kriya," with chanting, visualizations, specific breathing techniques and meditations to create a refreshing full body experience and awakening. Throughout, you will be building a deeper awareness of your inner state of health so that your organs and energy systems can function at their best. With consistency, these practices will help you develop a clear and peaceful mind, a strong and dynamically flowing body, and an experience of the connection between the finite self and infinite consciousness. This class is accessible to healthy beginners, yet inspiring to long-time practitioners.
Meditation Join us for this Summertime class; created especially for the body/heart needing/desiring quiet, still time. Stacey will offer just enough stretching and movement at the beginning and end to enter and exit the seated pose with a sense of freshness and ease. Chairs will be available if your body doesn't enjoy floor time. There will be guided prompts based on soft self inquiry and compassion. This is not a strict lineage meditation style~ there will be lots of different techniques offered, and time to check in and discuss questions and share insights if desired. Please feel free to bring your journal. Stacey Lynn brings a lifetime of inquiry practice and a love of creating sacred space. Use your class card or drop in ($15).
Level 1-2+ with Joel Join our newest teacher and longtime pal Joel as he steps in to teach at the 5:45pm time slot on Wednesday evenings in August! Joel teaches a confident flow style class and he shines when it comes to modifying and adjusting poses to make room for grace and ease in the body/mind. This class is designed for a Level 1-2+ practitioner, as the pace will be invigorating. Meditation and Savasana will be offered at closing~ with the desire to leave the practitioner feeling successful, content, and open hearted.
